Last Thursday night brought our first Monthly Competition of this season. It was quite a special evening as it brought the return of both Black & White and Colour prints. To prevent transmission of the virus, circulation of prints had ceased in the photographic community at the start of lockdown.
We were delighted to welcome Dougie Allan from Beeslack Penicuik Camera Club to deliver his assessment the entries.
Assessing someone else’s interpretation of a subject is an essentially subjective task. In our case it’s a photograph but it could be a painting, a piece of writing or a sculpture as all can be used as a means of self expression. Dougie had to scrutinise each photograph and compile notes on each one before delivering a detailed appraisal to each photographer. This pre-presentation analysis takes a considerable amount of time so represents a significant commitment to a voluntary role. In addition, at Falkirk we have a Knockout Competition. Photographs are presented to the judge in pairs and the judge must choose which one will progress to the next round. Judging competitions can be a difficult task but judges, like visiting lecturers, are vital to clubs of all types so we would just like to say thank you. You really are appreciated !
The results will shortly be posted under the Competitions tab on this website.
Thursday 20th October is the final PhotoEntry hand-in date for our annual competition with Stirling & District Camera Club. It’s also the final hand-in date for the 5 Way Competition and our own Monthly Competition No. 2 which is Themed. Thursday also brings our 2nd Members Night of the season with a programme of advice and demonstrations.
Take care and thanks for looking in.
