Operating from his studio in Bridge of Weir Andy Stark lives and breathes portraiture,  and last Thursday night he visited Falkirk and proved he also has the gift of concisely explaining every practical and technical aspect of the process leaving his audience well equipped to enter this field.

Andy started by explaining the different types of electronic flash which are available and the type of results they produce.  He started with built-in camera flash,  moved on to hot-shoe mounted electronic flash,  and on to stand-mounted studio flash.  He then set up a demonstration studio while detailing a number of safety factors such as dealing with loose cables and discharging unused power in a flash head.

Using Club members as subjects,  Andy then demonstrated the effect resulting from fitting different types of reflector on the flash head,  then the effect of flash umbrellas and soft boxes.  His camera was tethered to a laptop with each demonstration image then projected on to a screen within seconds.  A lively question & answer section followed and we are indebted to `Andy for sharing his expertise,  and for the considerable amount of time and effort he expended at our club.

Looking ahead,  there is a Club photo-walk planned for Edinburgh in December.  Members can get details from the co-ordinator.  Next week we welcome award winning Commercial and Landscape photographer David Queenan.
