Thursday 5th October is the hand in date for Monthly Competition number 1 and also for this season’s Knockout competition. Members are asked to submit PDI entries to PhotoEntry by that date. Print entries should be handed in at the club on Thursday 5th October and their accompanying PDI files uploaded to PhotoEntry by that date too. Please remember that entrants must have completed and submitted the new Membership Form after paying this season’s fees. Many thanks.
Post-processing workshops are not new at our club. Indeed, with this seasons’ theme of Processing & Printing they are a major point of focus dealing with how a digital camera file may be edited and then printed. Last week though, brought a workshop with a difference.
Peter de Marco is Chairman of the Glasgow District Photographic Union and Print Competition Secretary at the Eastwood Photographic Society in Glasgow. He is also an expert at both post-processing and printing with the former being his primary topic last Thursday. Tutors, usually, demonstrate on their own images. However, when Peter visited our club last season he offered to hold a post-processing workshop using images from our club members and, here is the crucial part, to edit them live during his tutorial. We accepted that offer on the spot !
Club members supplied a wide selection of images and Peter kindly took the time to consider what the photographer was trying to achieve, to explain the reason for each edit, and the process involved in each action. It was a hugely instructive evening and we are grateful to Peter for his time, his enthusiasm and for sharing his expertise. Looking ahead, and as always, Club members are asked to let us know what sort of topics or events you would like to see in the future. Many thanks.
Everyone is asked to bring their camera next week when Charles Woodford will hold a Close Up & Macro Photography workshop. This promises to another highly instructive evening and not to be missed. The following week we travel from the Macro world to other worlds when Graeme Barclay discusses Astronomical Photography.
Finally, Club members are invited to go to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain website where the latest PAGB Newsletter has just been posted.
Take care, and thanks for looking in.
