Weekly Roundup – 11th February

3 From 6  appeared on the club’s syllabus in 2018 with the original intention of encouraging us to photograph something different from our own individual favourite topics.  Club members are given 6 topics and asked to produce up to 3 photographs of up to 3 of the topics.  The arrival of the pandemic,  and lockdown,  in 2020 changed the perspective in that we were all obliged to photograph within our homes,  gardens or a 5 mile radius thereof.  Still Life,  Macro,  and photographs taken in our local area such as canals and woodland became more common with the level of expertise rising quickly.

This 2023 – 2024 season is only our second period of in-person meetings since the pandemic.  So,  we  are learning that  3 From 6  should become more challenging and offer sincere thanks to all club members who participated.

This year’s topics were:

Fill the Foreground – Add depth to your photograph by having something of interest in the foreground. pastedGraphic.png pastedGraphic_1.png

Botanical – Capture something more than just a bunch of flowers.  It could be the structure,  tone or colour of any form of plant life from leaves to bushes or flowers to trees.  It may be forming or withered in Black & White,  Colour,  or perhaps Toned ?

Blustery Weather – Convey the atmosphere of the wilder side of weather,  but stay safe while doing so !

Photograph a Film Title – Choose a film title and represent it on a photograph. Something like Goldfinger might be colourful,  Duck Soup might be a bit surreal although,  think twice about The Dambusters.

Modern Metropolis – It’s not too difficult to find photographs in a busy town or city.  Illustrating a modern aspect,  which may or may not be welcome,  is slightly different.

On My ‘Phone – Might be a photograph specifically taken on your ‘phone,  or something you saw when you didn’t have your usual camera with you.

The format is that the photographer introduces their image discussing their motivation or methods in producing it,  and that is followed by a general discussion about its positive merits.  This years submissions ranged from photographs taken locally,  to some taken much further afield.  Subject matter ranged from local flora & fauna to the hustle and bustle of street scenes in Asia.

On Thursday 15th February we welcome Campbell Skinner,  Club President at Greenock C.C.,  who will deliver his adjudication on Monthly Competition No 4.  It’s the final PhotoEntry hand-in date for Monthly Competition No. 5.too,  the final Monthly Competition of the season.  It’s also the hand-in date for Prints  ( with accompanying PDI’s on Photoentry )  for the annual Williamson competition between ourselves,  Kirkintilloch C.C.,  and Stirling & District C.C. who are this years hosts in a few weeks time.

Thanks for looking in.
