Weekly Roundup – 2nd February

Visit From Motherwell P.S.

We were delighted to welcome our friends from Motherwell P.S. last Thursday night for the latest round of the Image League competition of the Glasgow & District Photographic Union.  We also welcomed the judge,  Tracey Ross from Irvine C.C. who travelled through from Ayrshire to deliver her adjudication.  All clubs and societies,  of whatever type,  are indebted to club members who give of their time to lecture or judge.  Both clubs had previously sent their images to Tracey who had spent a considerable amount of time analysing their content.  Her comments were positive and constructive and clearly structured to encourage the photographer.

Motherwell P.S. scored 19 points out of 20 with:  Jersey Pullers;  Catch of the Day;  and Lone Tree.  Mummy’s Fur Coat and Permission To Land each scored the maximum 20 points.

For Falkirk congratulations are due to:  Catherine Anderson with Evening Reflections;  Geof Longstaff with Little Owl Trio;  Debra Duncan with The Entertainer;  Nancy MacArthur with Smiling Lily;  Graeme Barclay with Racing in the Rain,  Black Rock in the Milky Way and also Arctic Angel;  and Stuart Pearson with Glasgow Tower who each scored 19 points out of 20.

Elaine Woodford with Cranes in the Mist and also Tokyo International Forum;  Debra Duncan with My Kind of Rum;  and Janet Hoggan with Kestrel with Mouse  all scored the maximum 20 points.

The final score was Falkirk C.C. – 364 points,  Motherwell P.S. – 346 points.

Our next G.D.P.U. event is with Alba Photographic Society.

Going,  Going,  Gone.

Vintage photographic equipment can be highly collectable for anyone interested in the history of the medium.  Items which,  in their day,  were popular and widely used usually carry little or no value.  Items with a rarity can carry a significant value.  At a recent auction a prototype of a Leica M series camera was put up for sale.  It did not carry a Serial Number,  and was made between 1948 and 1949.  It was assembled from unique hand made and machine made parts and was presented with an estimated sale price of  700k  Euros.  It sold for  2.04  Million Euros  !

Take care,  and thanks for looking in.
