Weekly Roundup – 13th March

Dylan Nardini

Scottish Landscape Photographer of The Year – Winner,  British Photography Awards: Landscape category – Winner,  Landscape Photographer of the Year – Commended,  Outdoor Photographer Of the Year – Commended,  International Garden Photographer of the Year – Highly Commended,  Scottish Landscape Photographer of The Year – Commended,  UK Landscape Photographer Of the Year – Commended.

These are just a few of the successes achieved by our guest last Thursday,  and it doesn’t end there.  The similarities in the way that artists use either photography or painting to interpret a scene are periodically mentioned in these columns,  Dylan Nardini also exhibits his photographs alongside other artists who use canvas & oil or watercolour to express their art.

Dylan’s presentation was of the highest standard,  occasionally presenting two or three images within a single frame.  Two such examples were when an area of dark woodland was presented with blue toned woodland in the style of a cyanotype and also when an area of atmospherically lit brighter woodland was presented with an area of shaded forrest.  Chiaroscuro in presentation as well as content.

This photographer’s eye also seeks out the patterns within the landscape.  They might be the tracks left by human visitors,  the branches of a tree,  or the line between land and loch.  His abstract photographs too add another dimension to Dylan’s art.  A combination of sharp and dreamlike images where the use of colour becomes an art in itself is just one example.

Dylan also photographs with film.  Indeed some of his most atmospheric photographs are made from 35mm and 120 negatives or from Instant Picture cameras.  As we approach the final weeks of this 2024 – 2025 season this was an inspiring and uplifting evening
