Practical Night
Last Thursday brought a Practical Night, and a very busy one it was too.
Catherine Anderson started the evening by demonstrating how to re-size files to the standard competition and exhibition size. This can be a confusing topic but Catherine’s clear, step by step, demonstration took everyone through the process. She then demonstrated how to set, or change, the colour profile. Competitions and exhibitions, both nationally and internationally, have specific requirements in these areas so this was a particularly useful demonstration.
So inspired were we by Jacki Gordon’s presentation last week that, this week, Stuart Pearson brought a still life studio for miniature model figures. Club members had the opportunity to try different presentations in a controlled lighting environment. Just the thing for cold and gloomy nights.
Club members were also able to practice studio portraiture using different lighting arrangements. In a studio environment the photographer is in complete control of lighting. Therefore shadows, well defined or soft, and the intensity of light illuminating the subject is controlled by the photographer. Much can be learned about lighting and composition in this area.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
This was our final weekly meeting of 2025. We do have a Christmas Tree decorated with photographs in the Festival of Trees in the square in the Howgate Shopping Centre alongside some marvellously decorated trees from other community groups. The Festival of Trees site is open from 10am until 4pm of Saturday 13th December and from 10am until 3:30pm on Sunday 14th December.
Weekly meetings resume on Thursday 8th January 2026.
