Weekly Roundup – 18th January

Current Projects

It’s not unusual for our club members to have specific interests,  or projects,  underway at any one time so last Thursday was an opportunity to hear about a few of them.

Geof Longstaff showed a collection of photographs on the theme of  Pictures I Wish I’d taken.   From a Natural History photograph of 3 Orca’s swimming side by side to a Daguerreotype,  probably the first candid street photograph ever taken,  Geof talked about his fascination with photography in its many different styles.

Allistair Kean then showed some photographs of the interior of St.Andrews West church taken by himself and Derek Forrest just before it closed.  He then showed a few photographs taken by club members which will feature in a forthcoming exhibition of work by Falkirk Camera Club and Falkirk Writer’s Circle.  Finally he spoke about an 1840’s Calotype by Robert Adamson and David Octavius Hill of Elizabeth Johnston Hall  ( 1822 – 1901 ),  versions of which are held in the world’s major photographic collections.

Next,  Paul Morgan showed and demonstrated Macro photography.  Images of dragonflies were just one example as Paul demonstrated how they were taken.  Lighting such subjects is an art in itself and Paul detailed how it was done.

Dave Ferguson recently presented some Multiple Exposure images at the club,  which raised a great deal of interest.  On Thursday night he demonstrated the technique and showed more with detailed explanations on how they were taken and the camera controls involved.  Each photograph contained 8 or 9 separate images,  sometimes of the same image and sometimes different.

Thanks for looking in.
