Monthly Competition
Competitions exist in many pursuits and organisations. Theatre groups, choirs, artists and writers to name just a few all have them. By definition, there are a series of winners. In practice, there is a little more involved. The judge will often come from an accredited judging system or have a particularly high degree of competency in the chosen pursuit. They have the task of delivering constructive comments which the participants can apply to their future efforts. They are expected to differentiate between those new to the chosen pursuit and the more experienced and the judge should send the entrants away wanting to do more. Judging is not an easy task, and we are indebted to all who visit our club either to judge a competition or deliver a lecture or workshop.
This season has brought a revised Monthly Competition format. There are 3 Monthly Competition nights instead of the previous 5. We have returned to a points scoring system where entries are marked out of 20 compared to the pointsless system of the previous few years, and although there are fewer competition nights there are more categories.
While we hold tutorial and workshop events there is an additional side to competitions, they are an opportunity to gain feedback from an experienced photographer. The judge for the second of this seasons 3 Monthly Competitions was acclaimed, and award winning, photographer Charles Everitt.
