Member’s Night
A Member’s Night at Falkirk C.C. is an opportunity for club members to explore topics which have arisen during the season.
Our club members use different types of cameras including Mobile ‘Phones, Drones, Compact & Bridge Cameras, and Mirrorless or DSLR cameras. During this past season we have explored the possibilities offered by each and last Thursday Catherine Anderson held a Focus Stacking workshop while Ronnie Anderson held a Light Painting workshop, both aimed at the latter two categories.
Focus Stacking is a relatively recent digital photography technique where a series of separate photographs, often a couple of dozen upwards, are taken at different focus points on the same subject. These photographs are then merged in post-processing creating a much larger area of sharpness than could be achieved by increasing the depth of field in a conventional manner.
Catherine had set up two tables with lighting, one with flowers, and the other with an opaque glass vase which brought an additional lighting aspect. She then explained and demonstrated the process in detail before club members tried it for themselves.
Light Painting is another technique which has grown in this digital age. While the camera shutter is open, someone creates intricate patterns in the air using coloured lights. The effects are remarkable and experienced practitioners can create designs, seemingly contained within larger patterns.
Looking Ahead
It hardly seems like 6 months have passed since the start of this 2025 – 2026 season. As we enter this season’s last two months, behind the scenes we start to prepare for this season’s Print & PDI of the Year event and our Annual General Meeting. Front of House activities are as lively as ever with some truly memorable events happening over the next few weeks.
On Thursday 5th March we welcome Susan Spence from Ayrshire to deliver her adjudication on our 3rd and final Monthly Competition of this season. On 12th March acclaimed wildlife photographer Charles Everitt speaks about wildlife on Inchkeith Island and the Forth Estuary. The following week we extend a warm welcome to Jane and Adrian Lines who are travelling north from Lancashire. Both are known for their highly creative photography and are hugely successful exhibitors on the International Salon and Exhibition of Photography global circuit. Jane Lines holds CPAGB, DPAGB, MPAGB, and BPE5* Distinctions while Adrian’s are HonPABG, MPGB , FBPE, EFIAP, SPSA, and AWPF. This promises to be an exceptional evening.
