Next week is a busy one in our Club’s calendar. The F.C.C. committee hold their monthly meeting on Monday 14th November. Tuesday 15th November brings the annual competition between Cumbernauld & Kilsyth P.S., Kirkintilloch C.C., Stirling & District C.C. and Falkirk C.C. This is the first time the clubs have met in person since before the pandemic and thanks are due to Cumbernauld & Kilsyth P.S. for hosting this event. On Wednesday 16th November we have the annual competition between Stirling & District C.C. and Falkirk C.C., this year the event is held at Stirling. Then on Thursday 17th November we have Monthly Competition No. 2 at Falkirk C.C. This will be an interesting one as it’s this seasons Themed competition with Go Minimal and Falkirk District being the two themes in question.
As mentioned last week the International Salon of Photography circuit is in full swing with entries now being invited for the Altius Winter Circuit in India, the Trofeu Pell Circuit in Spain and the Dunav Circuit in Croatia among others accepting entries. Check their respective websites for details or the Exhibitions > Exhibition List section of the Photographic Society of America website for a comprehensive listing.
Last Thursday night at Falkirk C.C. began with a short business meeting before Club President, Bob Black, introduced the second Members Night of this season. They are an opportunity to look at a variety of technical or practical topics which have arisen in recent weeks and this months M.N. proved to be one of the most informative yet.
We started with a look at organising picture files discussing Year, Date, Event, Location options in addition to the possibility of organising by camera or lens type. Next, we moved on to the 2022 Summer Project. Bob Black had assembled this year’s P.D.I.’s into an Audio Visual programme covering many of the set topics for the project.
Bob and Dave Ferguson then held a Question & Answer session where Club members could ask about technical issues. The first question was about Hyperfocal Distance, always a favourite. The use of Neutral Density filters and long exposures were next before we moved on to f Stops and then Focus Points.
Competitions within all types of community organisation or club, be it performing or non-performing, are an effective means on gaining feedback on the pursuit in question. As necessary, and appreciated, as Judges are in this context there is always discussion about their findings so our occasional Be The Judge session allows us to voice our own opinions on photographs before listening to comments made by an actual judge. This weeks session was lively and interesting.
The later sunrise and earlier sunset, coupled with the sun sitting lower in the sky, at this time of year provides interesting directional lighting during early morning and late afternoon. It’s a popular time for photographers so, have a good week.
