Learning about the technical and artistic aspects of photography, both informally and formally, and sharing ideas and knowledge about photography is what we do. Our club Constitution puts it a bit more officially: The principle purpose of the Club is the advancement of the art, heritage, culture and science of photography.

First Night of Season 2025 – 2026
Club President Dave Ferguson welcomed cub members, returning and new, to the first meeting of our 2025 – 2026 season last Thursday night. Dave extended a particular welcome to new club members inviting everyone to let us know of any areas of photography in which they are especially interested. One of the first duties was then for Internal Competition Secretary, Bob Black, to present two certificates to Ronnie Anderson marking his successes in last seasons club competitions before Dave introduced the club’s Management Team and explained their roles before mentioning the organisations to which the club itself was associated. The club’s new competition format, a learning mechanism enabling club members to receive feedback, was also discussed. Graeme Barclay then outlined a 10 part photographic learning programme which will start in a few weeks time. These tutorials will address both technical and artistic aspects of photography and is the most comprehensive programme ever delivered by the club.
Following a break for tea & coffee, the club’s Web Controller Stuart Pearson showed some of the photographs taken by club members during the club’s Thursday night summer photo-walks. Bluebell covered woodlands, Oystercatchers on the river Forth, the Pineapple, Callendar and Dollar parks, Culross and Bo’ness foreshore were just some of the nearby locations which had been visited. It was notable that club photographers had identified particular aspects of each area visited. It may have been a shape or pattern in the landscape or a detail of a flower, specific colour or insect, or the scene may have been interpreted in Black & White. The presentation augured well for the learning experiences of the season ahead.
On Thursday 18th September we welcome Thomas Lamont, the Kilted Photographer, whose modern multi award winning images of Scotland and beyond have captured the imagination of image makers.
