Weekly Roundup – 28th September

Learning about the technical and artistic aspects of photography, both informally and formally, and sharing ideas and knowledge about photography is what we do. Our club Constitution puts it a bit more officially:  The principle purpose of the Club is the advancement of the art,  heritage,  culture and science of photography.

Scotland’s Night Sky

One of the great benefits of membership of a community organisation with a particular interest is the opportunity to attend presentations by people who,  in addition to their practical and technical knowledge, have a real understanding of their subject,   Our guest last Thursday evening,  Andrew Allan,   is such a person and an Astrophotographer.  He photographs the night sky,  Scotland’s and far beyond,  with an unsurpassed knowledge of his subject coupled with a faultless expertise in the photographic process.  Andrew’s photographs of the Aurora Borealis were stunning and his time-lapse sequences including some of meteor showers were breathtaking.  He also demonstrated a rare ability to communicate in a relaxed and informative manner answering a multitude of questions during the closing question and answer session.  He offers group and individual tuition through his website,  social media,  and in print.

2nd October

Our first visiting speaker of this new season photographed from the air.  Our second went higher by photographing the night sky itself.  Our third,  on 2nd October,  keeps their feet firmly on the ground.  Photography can be used for many different purposes,  including reporting news and how people react.  Cameron Scott is a supporting photographer at the Centre for British Documentary Photography often photographing human reactions in chaotic situations.  Hope to see you there.

Thanks for looking in.
