Weekly Roundup – 11th January 2026

3 From 6

3 From 6  is a Falkirk Camera Club event which started in 2018.  Originally presented as a  one-off  event,  it has continued annually.  When it started,  many of our club members each had their own favourite subjects.  On these much expertise would be gained but we knew from our connections with other clubs,  both locally and internationally,  that we should look at broadening our areas of expertise.  In 3 From 6  club members are presented with 6 topics early in the club season and invited to contribute up to 3 photographs of up to 3 of the topics.  The principle being,  that we might each be encouraged to photograph something outside of our usual range of topics.

This season’s topics were:

Autumn or Winter in Callendar Park & Estate

There were plenty of opportunities here.  Bleak landscapes,  harsh sunlight highlighting textures or creating shadows,  the graphic outline of leafless trees,  people,  or wildlife on the lake.  Photographs taken inside Callendar House were another option.

A Patch of Red

A useful compositional tool is to position a patch of red in the frame.

Photograph A Feeling

Happiness,  Sadness,  Despair,  Frustration and Surprise were just some of the options.

Falkirk Trinity Church

This was an opportunity to photograph this historic church in the town centre. The relationship between the church and the surrounding town centre was another approach.

Multiple Exposures

The only rule was that there was more than one exposure in the frame.  Could have been 2,  10, or 50 exposures.  Any number chosen by the photographer.

Quirky or Observational

Could have been an unusual scene,  something not seen every day or the photographer’s interpretation of a common event.

There was an excellent set of images so thanks to all the contributors.

The London Salon

Club members have been visiting exhibitions at Edinburgh Photographic Society this month.  The London Salon has its roots in 1893,  changing to that moniker in 1910 with the aim of being a London based society who would meet regularly and who,  once a year,  would invite selected photographers from all over the world to submit images for consideration to be included in an exhibition.  The invitation to enter states that:-  “ The aim of the London Salon is to exhibit only that class of work in Pictorial Photography in which there is distinct evidence of personal artistic feeling and execution. “  This is still the aim of the London Salon today and the 111th  exhibition is on at Edinburgh P.S.,  68, Great King Street,  Edinburgh. EH3 6QU.  Only 15 to 20 minutes walk from Waverley Railway Station.   Open Saturdays 17th and 24th January,  Sundays 18th and 25th January,  10am to 4pm.
