Weekly Roundup – 29th March

George Williamson Competition

Last Thursday night we welcomed club members from Kirkintilloch C.C. and Stirling & District C.C. to Falkirk.  The occasion was the annual Williamson competition.  It was founded by Glasgow photographic retailer George Williamson in 1958 and has continued annually.  George’s plan was that the three clubs would meet once a year in the appreciation of photography and stage a competition, and that each club would take it in turn to host the event.

There are two sections,  one for best Colour Print and the other for the best Black & White print to be chosen from a selection submitted by each club. Almost 70 years later the association between the three clubs is as strong as ever and this year it was Falkirk’s privilege to act as host. The judge was Campbell Skinner DPAGB BPE2*  from Greenock C.C.,  a highly accomplished photographer across multiple areas of the medium with particular interests in Sport  ( Equestestrian,  Table Tennis,  Gymnastics,  Rugby and Football among others )  and Musicians in Concert.

Campbell’s analysis of each print was constructive and encouraging to the photographers and was appreciated by all.  Congratulations to this season’s winners Stirling & District C.C.,  continuing their win from last year.  Kirkintilloch C.C. were in second place with Falkirk C.C. in third place.  Top print from Falkirk was Pink Carnation by Agnes Clark LRPS which scored the maximum 20 points.  Our thanks to Campbell for all of his work.

Falkirk Writer’s Circle and Falkirk Camera Club Exhibition – Callendar House

Sincere thanks to everyone,  both within and outwith both clubs for your kind and positive comments about our joint exhibition.  It’s in the ground floor turret in Callendar House with the theme of Autumn in Callendar Park.  The exhibition shows the autumn colours,  the wildlife,  and the way the park is used using photographs from Falkirk C.C. and poetry and prose from Falkirk W.C.

Annual General Meeting

It hardly seems possible that we are approaching the last month of this 2025 – 2026 season.  Office Bearers are now submitting their Annual Reports which will be circulated to club members soon.
