Weekly Roundup – 26th March

Since 1958 there has been an annual competition between the camera clubs of Kirkintilloch,  Stirling & District,  and Falkirk.  It was instigated by George Williamson,  a much respected Glasgow photographic retailer whose business continued until the 1990’s.  The aim of the competition was to encourage friendship  between the 3 clubs,  and that continues to this day.  The event rotates around each club and this year it was Falkirk’s privilege to act as host.  The event was held online during the pandemic and co-incidentally,  was our final meeting in 2020 before ceasing live meetings due to the outbreak of Covid.

There are two sections in the competition.  One for Colour Prints and one for Black and White Prints.  The judge was Paul Millar,  a member at Eastwood Photographic Society in Glasgow and also President and Syllabus Secretary of the Scottish Photographic Circle.  In this digital age the photographic Print still plays a major role in the life of each club,  requiring additional skill in the preparation to competition standard.  Such events also represent a significant commitment from a judge with everyone grateful to Paul for the considerable amount of time he had clearly spent in compiling his comments.  They were clear, constructive and appreciated by all.  Naturally there has to be a winner of both the Colour Section and the Black & White section.  However,  it was simply our privilege to host the event in-person once again.

Thanks for looking in.
