We had a busy and instructive evening at last Thursday’s Member’s Night. First on the agenda was an in-depth look at the critiques delivered by the previous weeks competition judge, Andy S Hayes ARPS EFIAP/g DPAGB PPSA. Andy had kindly provided a copy of his notes enabling all entrants to read over all his comments and extract information relevant to their own photography.
As you can see from the Distinctions following Andy’s name he is a distinguished photographer, also exhibiting globally on the International Salon of Photography circuit. Following that trail we took a close look at the requirements for gaining such recognitions. We can trace our roots back to 1889 and have documented verification of International Exhibition success by group members beginning in the late 1930’s. At the present time the 5 most successful F.C.C. photographers, ever, on the International Exhibition & Salon circuit are current Club members so it’s a subject of some interest.
On that theme, on Thursday 9th November we welcome back Kenny McLean from Cumbernauld & Kilsyth Photographic Society. A highly accomplished photographer, the title of Kenny’s presentation is Lockdown and Distinctions. During the lockdown periods he took a close look at what was required to achieve the Distinctions offered by the major worldwide photographic institutions. What did he discover, did he submit work in application for them, and if so was he successful ? Club members will find out on Thursday. We meet at 7:30pm in Falkirk Bowling Club, Cochrane St., Falkirk. FK1 If you are thinking of joining us, please come along.
More success from one of those 5 most successful F.C.C. photographers mentioned earlier. Janet Hoggan achieved 11 Acceptances, including 2 Honourable Mentions in the New South Wales International Circuit 2023. This Australian event attracts entries from all over the world and is supported by the major worldwide photographic institutions. The circuit comprises of 3 Salons within New South Wales and Janet’s successes are as follows:

Also last Thursday evening, we looked at contributions to our Summer Project 2023. Club members were given a list of topics earlier this year and Bob Black had thoughtfully constructed an Audio Visual presentation of all images. Club members, as always, are invited to suggest topics for future events or projects.
Club member’s will have noticed a familiar name in the Supplement of the current edition of the Sunday Post. Iain Fleming has an illustrated article on capturing the wild beauty of nature on an African safari.
We look forward to seeing everyone this Thursday for Kenny McLean’s presentation. On Thursday 19th November we are delighted to welcome Chris Leslie, BAFTA Scotland award winning photographer and filmmaker. Chris is a major contributor to the current photographic exhibition at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and will be delivering an illustrated talk about one of his projects.
Take care, and thanks for looking in.
