Barrie Spence
On Thursday we welcomed Barrie Spence, one of the country’s leading studio photographers specialising in dance, ballet and commercial photography. His subjects range from people and families to products, horses and dogs. He applies a fine-art approach to his work meaning, through careful use of composition and lighting, the subjects are photographed with precision and exude a sense of their own emotion or personality. Barrie is a Director of the British Institute of Professional Photography, founded in 1901 it’s the leading organisation for practising professional photographers.
Barrie took the time to carefully explain his working environment and the manner in which he approaches each different type of subject. It’s always interesting to hear how different photographers operate and Barrie’s careful assessment of each subject combines with a distinctive clarity of style.
We are indebted to Barrie for being so generous with his time and for answering many questions throughout the evening.
