Monthly Competition No. 3
This was our final 2024 meeting at Trinity Church with judge Ken Lindsay MPAGB, a highly successful photographer from Eastwood Photographic Society in Glasgow. Ken has lectured before at our club, and we are grateful to Eastwood P.S. for the services of other recent lecturers and judges.
It might be argued that assessing, what is essentially, one photographers subjective interpretation of a subject by another photographer is a difficult task. It is, and we are grateful to Ken for his constructive, motivating and considered assessments of our work. Competition judges spend a great deal of time assessing photographs. Among the elements which Ken discussed were composition, range of tones, exposure and post-processing, In the case of Prints an assessments of overall Print quality and the types of paper used were also helpfully discussed. He also took care to discuss how each photographer had interpreted their subject and how, if any, adjustments might be made. One of the most interesting factors of these events is that everyone , from listening to the judges comments about the work of other photographers, picks up helpful information which can be used in their own photography. In that respect also, this was a highly educational evening and our thanks to Ken for all his work.
Photography Genres
As with other forms of self expression there are many different genres of photography. “ Club “ photography is one niche among many albeit a worldwide niche. Through the Scottish Photographic Federation, the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain and on to the Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique different “ club “ styles emerge and evolve. We are fortunate that the 5 most successful Falkirk C.C. members ever and since 1889, on the International Salon & Exhibition of Photography circuit which is based on that structure are current F.C.C. members. Their work appears in our club events too, to the benefit of all club members.
Next Week
We go for a Christmas meal next week so this is our final Weekly Roundup of 2024. Club meetings resume at Trinity Church on 9th January 2025. In the meantime, thanks for looking in and best wishes for Christmas and New Year.
