Weekly Roundup – 1st December

Celebrating Success

This season’s Member’s Nights have sought to reflect the essence of  “ club “  photography.  We’ve had two where we’ve been out taking photographs on a Thursday night plus one looking at the practical options available when taking photographs with a Smartphone.  During the first half of last Thursday night’s meeting we looked at success.

Back in September we reported that Debra Duncan had been awarded a Licentiateship of the Royal Photographic Society.  She has now been recognised by the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain and been awarded a Credit PAGB.  To achieve that Distinction it is necessary to submit a panel of 10 images which meet the standards required by a group of 6 adjudicators.  Debra had chosen to submit a panel of Prints,  thus increasing the degree of difficulty due to the required standard of Print quality and presentation.  In bringing her successful panel to the club last Thursday she turned the evening into an educational event for club members.  A panel of 6 club adjudicators were chosen and given PAGB assessment sheets.  They then had the same time as PAGB adjudicators to assess each of Debra’s 10 Prints.  Debra then discussed and compared the assessments by club members to those of the PAGB panel.  It was a highly instructional and revealing exercise demonstrating the requirements of a PAGB panel.  Our thanks to Debra Duncan LRPS CPAGB.

4 Way Judging

During the second half of last Thursday’s meeting all club members had the chance to give their own opinions on the images included in last weeks S.P.F. Central & Northern 4 Way competition,  and to compare them with those of the competition judge.  This was another highly instructional exercise.

Next Week

Our guest on 5th December is Ken Lindsay from Eastwood Photographic Society in Glasgow.  Ken will be delivering his adjudication on Monthly Competition No. 3.  This will be our final Thursday night meeting of 2024.  On 12th December we go for a Christmas meal.

Take care,  and thanks for looking in.
