We were much looking forward to welcoming Adobe Professional instructor Martin Sproul to Falkirk on Thursday. However, with a membership based around Central Scotland and the Lothians, the weather ( as you will know ) had other ideas.
Martin will visit later this season so, this week, we held Thursday nights meeting online. Many thanks to everyone who arranged this, and also to Club members who dusted off their online video platform programmes and passwords to join in. It was certainly worthwhile as we had secured a pre-recorded lecture from Vancouver based David duChemin. A humanitarian assignment photographer, working worldwide, David fits another of our Club criterion. While we treasure our associations within the photographic club community, indeed they are the reason we can trace our roots back to the 19th century, our club has always looked at the wider world of photography. Major photographic galleries in Glasgow and Edinburgh help, and in that respect our Syllabus Secretary has quite a coup instore for our members in a few weeks time !
David duChemin brings another dimension to photography. He looks beyond the technical side, which our club covers through workshops, and on to how a photograph makes us think and feel. The title of his presentation was The Heart of the Photograph where David talked about how the creative use of light, composition and balance can generate mood, mystery and atmosphere within a photograph. He encourages photographers to think about why we are taking a photograph and what we are trying to communicate. This was a thought provoking presentation exclusively about the art & craft of photography.
Weather permitting we will be back in Falkirk Bowling Club next week for Monthly Competition No. 1 and our guest adjudicator Andy S Hayes ARPS EFIAP/g DPAGB PPSA.
Thanks for looking in, and take care.
