Weekly Roundup – 17th November

Monthly Competition No. 2

Last Thursday night,  to deliver her adjudication on Monthly Competition No. 2,   we welcomed Susan Spence from Eastwood Photographic Society in Glasgow.  We are always indebted to visiting lecturers and competition judges.  Judges in particular spend a great deal of time reviewing each month’s entries,  noting their observations,  and compiling positive feedback to discuss with the photographer.  It’s not a job for the fainthearted as judges deliver the feedback to a roomful of photographers.  Bob Black took 1st Place,  both in the Monochrome Print section with Queensferry Crossing and the Colour Print section with Le Carrousel Venitien.  Graeme Barclay took 1st Place in the Projected Digital Image section.

Looking Ahead

Next week we welcome visitors from Cumbernauld & Kilsyth Photographic Society,  Kirkintilloch Camera Club,  and Stirling & District Camera Club.  28th November brings an ever popular Member’s Night and on 5th December we welcome Ken Lindsay from Eastwood Photographic Society to adjudicate on Monthly Competition No. 3.

Talking Pictures

The club’s PhotoEntry system currently invites contributions to two of our other events.  24th November is the closing date for contributions to Talking Pictures.  We send the PDI’s to Falkirk Writers Circle who make a selection,  then compose pieces of prose or poetry inspired by the chosen images.  Both groups meet for an evening later this season when each photographer will introduce their photograph,  followed by each writer who will read their composition in front of the projected digital image.

3 From 6

16th January is the closing date for contributions to  3 From 6.  Like many clubs,  we have events where we seek feedback on our work.  In 3 For 6 there is no feedback unless requested by the photographer.  Six topics are presented and are listed below with club members invited to contribute up to three PDI’s.  They can be up to three PDI’s of one topic,  different topics,  or any point in between.  Photographs may have been taken at any time and the aim is to produce photographs in the photographer’s own style and interpret the topic in their own way.  Images can be conventional,  abstract or creative.  On 3 From 6 night the photographer introduces their image or images and briefly talks about their motivation for producing them.  It’s not a competition,  but for convenience the receptacle for entries is in the Competitions 2024 – 2025 section in PhotoEntry and is available now.  Images should be sized to the usual,  maximum,  1600 x 1200 and be sRGB.  Closing date for submissions is 16th January 2025 with 3 From 6 night a few weeks later.
