Weekly Roundup – 17th December

Our thanks to Ollie Desforges,  from Paisley Colour Photographic Club,  our judge for Monthly Competition No.3 last Thursday night.  Most of our competitions are open,  in other words the subject matter is entirely up to the photographer.  This one is a little different from the others with entrants having a choice of two themes.  The themes this year were  Close Up / Macro Photography,  or Street Photography.

A few years ago we started a process of encouraging ourselves to step outside of our comfort zones and to photograph subjects different from our usual personal favourites.  That led to one of our monthly competitions carrying themes,  of which there is a choice of two.  Why two ?   Well,  if you are a regular photographer at sporting events and the theme is Sport then it’s not really a challenge and you have an advantage over club colleagues who really are trying something different.  Two themes try to address that situation.  Obviously we have a good understanding of everyones favourite subjects anyway so club members can chat with the Internal Competition Secretary for guidance.  The other factor is,  like many clubs with a particular interest,  we do this for enjoyment and relaxation so however enthusiastic we might feel about our own projects a special interest club ultimately exists so we can encourage each other.

Michael Cox won the Colour Print section,  Stuart Pearson won the Monochrome Print section,  and Graeme Barclay won the Projected Digital Image section. Congratulations to all. You will find the full list of Winning, Highly Commended and Commended photographers under the Competitions tab.

That was our last meeting of 2023.  Our next meeting will be on 11th January 2024 at 7:30pm in our new venue at Trinity Church,  Manse Pl.,  Falkirk. FK1 1JN  All club members are asked to attend as we will hold an EGM to elect a new General Secretary – Trustee,  and an introduction to the facilities at our new venue.  We will then have our first look at photography in 2024.

Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.

Take care and thanks for looking in.
